A glorified PDF -and not even retina or Newsstand-enabled? Is this really the best the electrical engineering industrys flagship trade association can muster? Ive heard that engineers have a strange sense of humor, but honestly... Okay guys... You got me. Good joke. So really, wheres the real app? No, seriously, guys. Hello?

This app is horrible. Ive now spent about two days trying to get it to download the current issue. It doesnt do partial downloads at all, if theres some interruption of network connectivity (like when a wifi iPad goes to sleep), it must restart from the beginning. Also, it takes far, far, far, far too long to download. It shouldnt take an hour to download a magazine (and no, my network is fine).

... When it works at all. Downloaded the first issue and then it stopped working entirely.

does not load new magazines and support is not carring enough to answer. and you cantt rate it with 0 stars :-)

I thought the problems were mine,but I see others are unclear about utility of this app. I get notices saying I should view my copy, which I would prefer to do on iPad but no dice!

Youre forced to give up print versions of the magazine to use this app. Why?

I switched to digital and it automatically reverted back to print. User interface to its bookshelf is horrible. IEEE Spectrum should outsource online publication to someone who knows what they are doing.

I cant get any new issues since May. The pdf version would be better then this.

This is an excellent way to read Spectrum!

Cannot figure out how to download the latest issue, even after I received a reminder email that it would be waiting for me. Seems like other users have reported this same issue in the past. IEEE can you please help?

Buttons on the main page dont work. Get password, forgot password, submit, etc. None work.

I normally dont download apps with a rating of less than 3 stars, but since this is the official way to view the IEEEs magazine, I thought Id give it a try anyway. Two major problems: the app often refuses to download anything - somewhat irritating because thats basically all it is supposed to do, and my password gets EMAILED to me in PLAIN-TEXT - meaning theres no hashing going on. The fact that the IEEE - an organization that publishes papers on computer security - is satisfied with the quality of this app is... Disturbing.

It would be terrific if one could use this app to download the latest issue of Spectrum so you could read it. Unfortunately that doesnt work. Perhaps someone reads these comments who has either the ability or authority (preferably both) to cause the problem to be remedied. I will go back to the dead tree version. Alas.

IEEE has done its members a disservice by linking its electronic publication program to QMags. Like so many of these electronic publication apps, this one is plagued by account validation and login issues that could result in legitimate users losing their back catalog of paid issues. Most significantly, your QMag account is not linked to you IEEE membership account, so you will not be likely to know your password. If you do request a password reset, look in your junk mail or suspected spam folder, as this is where it most likely land. Interesting isnt it that even the email client knows this is a loser.

The IEEE Spectrum app has become my preferred way of reading the magazine. I only had to log in once after I first downloaded the app, and new issues are now delivered to my library seamlessly. I also like the small red button alert on the icon that tells me a new issue has been delivered. The quality of the page display is the most beautiful I have seen, with excellent color reproduction and fine resolution, even when I pinch to increase viewing size. This does justice to the quality content of the magazine.

Crashes within a minute. Wont download my new issues. "Send password" becomes "reset password". Best part was that it didnt delete all my old issues (like the previous upgrades). IEEE, this is (still) seriously junk.

After updating, the account settings were lost. Tried to enter account information again (and Primary ID is misspelled as Pimary), but even after filling in all info, says "Login Id missing". Looks like this version was not tested at all before releasing it. Qmags needs to fix this broken app ASAP.

App keeps throwing error messages when launched offline. I had already downloaded an entire magazine but it still wont let me read it.

IEEE guys, its supposed that your the hottest in engineering!!, fix this crap. This application takes eons to download the magazine... If you change of focus in the iPad or iPhone you have to star all over again!...Ill give Zero stars but I cannot put this comment
